What programs does RISPE offer?
RISPE currently offers a PK-12 ESOL certification, an alternative certification in Elementary Education, and a Multilingual Learner (MLL) Endorsement Program. Our Elementary Special Education certification program will launch Summer 2026, and we plan to launch Secondary Special Education later in the 2026-27 academic year. We are also approved by the Rhode Island Council on Postsecondary Education to offer two degree programs: an MEd and MAT, which we plan to launch in the next few years.
Is RISPE approved by the state of Rhode Island to be a degree-granting institution?
Yes, RISPE received unanimous approval from the Rhode Island Council on Postsecondary Education on March 20th, 2019.
Is RISPE accredited?
RISPE is in the process of seeking NECHE (formerly NEASC) accreditation, which can take several years.
How long are RISPE’s programs?
RISPE’s certification programs range from 13 to 18 months. Our ESOL program is offered on two different schedules to provide maximum flexibility for candidates; please see the ESOL program page for more details.
